Sharing the best kept secret in DISD.

There will be a DISD Magnet School Fair at Skyline HS on January 9th and our Open House will be on January 21, 2010 at 6:30 PM.

Go by the Administration Building on Ross Ave, ask at YOUR neighborhood school, or go to http://www.dallasisd.org/parents/magnet/appforms.htm    APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE AFTER JANUARY 11th

Bring what you have put together to Travis and have it checked in between February 1st and 12th. You will need to bring in a utility bill or similar documentation to prove that you are living within DISD boundaries. Travis is allowed only a few out-of-district students per year..

30% of the openings at any grade will be filled off the top of the acceptable listing, regardless of where you live in DISD. The remaining 70% will be filled fairly evenly going by which Elementary Learning Community the applicant is from.

Travis gets MORE qualified applications than we can accept. Those students are placed on a waiting list pending extra openings. Waiting List candidates could be called up to the end of school, or once school starts again in the Fall, but it would be unlikely to be called DURING summer.

If your phone and address are not correct and clear, you will not hear from Travis. If you are chosen, but cannot be contacted, your position will be offered to an applicant on the waiting list.

Incomplete application packets are NOT scored. Travis will ATTEMPT to contact you.

Status Letters will be mailed in March 12. Second round letters will be mailed in April.

Prospective 4th through 8th graders will be required to write an independently written essay there AT Travis. Applicants will choose a Date/Time for the  testing at the time of checking in their application packet. Time/Dates are available when you are turning in your materials.

You MUST also sign up to take the ITBS at your current school before the end of November 2009.   Magnet  ITBS testing is handled by the current school. Essay tests are handled by Travis. Testing for private school children will be handled at time of application.

Here’s the deal. You need ITBS scores with an average of 80 or better in Reading & Math to qualify (with neither score below a 70.) If you do not have ITBS scores, you will be required to take it (Contact the test coordinator at YOUR school for this.).  Home schooled, private school, or out of district students : we determine if you can sign up for Magnet ITBS testing by checking your TAKS scores to see if either Reading or Math are ABOVE 2300. Magnet ITBS testing will be announced for out of district students. Magnet ITBS testing for current DISD students is to be handled by the current school. Essay tests are handled by Travis. (Please note this site has always noted that ITBS testing for DISD students must be handled by their school. This has NOT been modified. )
